There is really no time like fall in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The cool evenings and the shorter days bring the area’s forests into a blaze of colors.
This autumn tour is based out of the village of Grand Marais. It is located on the eastern end of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The village itself is beautiful and allows many photographic opportunities. The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore allows photography in a beautiful wilderness area, Lake Superior beaches, Historic Lighthouse, exposed shipwrecks, hidden inland lakes and forests that stretch for over 47 miles. In addition the surround area allows even more photographic opportunities. Several Spectacular waterfalls are located close to trailheads. In addition we search out hidden streams and lakes.
Fall Color starts near Munising, and moves east to Grand Marais, allowing almost 3 weeks of excellent photography. You can be certain that during your time in Grand Marais, we will find amazing opportunities for photography. The timing of this workshop and the location allows us the best opportunity to find fall color, however timing is unpredictable in the north country!
The leader of this workshop is Paul Petersen. Paul has been a nature photographer for over 45 years, and a Nature Pro for the last 7 years. Recent images have won many contests including the Pure Michigan Photography Contest. In the fall of 2011 Paul was selected as “Artist in Residence” of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore by the National Park Service. This experience allowed him to locate many hidden locations and become acquainted with the park.
